Jersey City Bicyclist Injuried by Drunk Driver

A  bicyclist was seriously injured on Saturday night, April 8. 2023, along Route 440 South and East 22nd Street in Bayonne, NJ. Bayonne Police officers rushed to the scene at approximately 9:47 p.m. in response to a report of a bicyclist who had been hit by a car. The 37-year-old bicyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  The collision left him with serious injuries.

As a result of an onsite investigation, Bayonne Police have charged 45-year-old Rainier J. Solis of Suffolk Avenue in Staten Island, with driving while intoxicated (D.W.I.) as well as endangering the welfare of a child when it was discovered that he had two minors in the vehicle at the time. He was also charged with assault by auto according to the police officers.

With the expansion of bicycle lanes in many cities and townships, and with gas prices being what they are, riding a bicycle is a preferred method of transporation especially as weather warms up.  It is imperative that auto drivers pay extra attention to bicyclists.  Bicycle v. Auto collision usually ends with the bicyclist sustaining serious or life threatening injuries or death.
