NJ Supreme Court ruling bars benefits for medical expenses beyond PIP limits

On March 26, 2019 the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that drivers who select the minimum $15,000 insurance personal injury protection (PIP) cannot recover additional compensation for medical expenses exceeding that amount. This means if drivers opt for the $15,000 insurance minimum in PIP benefits, they will be unable to seek additional benefits to cover the cost of medical expenses if they exceed the $15,000 limit. The new ruling reverses a prior Appellate Division decision that previously allowed auto accident victims to recover medical expenses exceeding their minimum PIP coverage.

It cannot be overstated. Don’t take chances with your health or your finances. For the sake of your future, elect as much PIP coverage as possible. Budget it into your finances with the same discipline as any other essential expense.
